People spent lot of time in their life to sleep. And Pillows play an important roles in these sleep. Most of people think of comfortable when they think of pillows. There is no doubt that comfort is a big part of the quality of a good pillow. However, there is another very important issue to consider when looking for the right pillow for your bed—the support quality. This is especially true for side sleepers. People who prefer to sleep on their sides need a lot of extra support for their neck, so that the position they sleep in does not cause undue strain on their backs, shoulders and head.

When you sleep on your side, there is a greater distance between the mattress and your head than there is for people who sleep on their backs or stomach. This distance needs to be filled to keep the head straight, so the spine remains in line. When your head is lowered towards the mattress, it causes the neck to bend, putting pressure on the nerves, and strains muscles and tendons. That’s why sleeping in the wrong position can leave you feeling tired in the morning, or worse, give you headaches or back pain, muscle weakness, tingling in the arms or legs, and even can cause issues such as sciatica.

Pillow Positions for Side Sleepers

Along with under the neck and head for support, there are several strategic pillow placements that can help side sleepers get a better night’s rest.

Hip Supporting Knee Pillow

Placing a pillow between the knees keeps the hips in proper alignment. Just like the neck, improper alignment of the hips forces the spine out of position and can cause nerve and muscle pain. Like the pillow used for neck and head support, the knee pillow must be giving enough to be luxuriously comfortable, and yet strong enough not to crush beneath the pressure of sleeping so that it becomes useless.

Back and Stomach Supporting Pillows

As soothing as sleeping on your side can be, it is also a position that causes general tension simply from having to hold a position that is less stable than back or stomach sleeping. Putting a support pillow behind your back, or in front of your stomach (and in the best case, both places) will provide complete support that keeps your body in position without straining muscles. The back and stomach support pillows need to be very firm so they do not flatten and lose their support under the strain of your full body pressure.

The stomach supporting pillow is even more important for pregnant women who find the pressure on their stomach’s to be painful in most sleeping positions. Picking the right pillow for all of the supporting positions is easier than you might think. All side sleeper position pillows have the same things in common: they are firm and won’t collapse, and they are comfortably soft.

There is one extra consideration when looking at buying body pillows for side sleepers. When looking for a side sleeper pillow that will support your back or stomach, consider buying the largest size available. Many of the great side sleeper pillows come in two or more of the common pillow sizes: standard, queen or king. King-sized pillows make better body pillows, but even a standard-sized pillow will work fine when you need it to.

There is no dout that losing sleep on a plane or road trip can be frustrating. That's why having a travel pillow should be an additional item that you pack and bring with you. Believe me, it helps. Travel pillows allow you to sleep just about anywhere. A neck pillow is generally covered in memory foam and can keep your neck from being stuck in an awkward position.

Travel pillows also eliminate to worry about having to cram. A full size pillow in your luggage or carry on. There are even inflatable travel cushions that can help support your neck.

The bottom line is it's worth the extra money and time to bring along your own travel pillow so you'll have a clean and comfortable way to rest your head wake up sleep better.

During your holiday trips you may be familiar with a "pillow companion". You may be one of them or perhaps you've noticed them in hotel lobbies or airports.

As other people, you and I may experience with cramped seats and noisy passengers. These factors will keep you away from a rest nap. I'm not a good sleeper, It really hard for me to sleep when I have to moving from one place to another by train or plane. In these situation, my neck pillow help me alot and I now can not get in air plane without it.

Talk in in wider topic, you should have a good pillow that you can ensure to get a good sleeping. An uncomfortable pillow can hinder your chance of getting a good night's sleep, that can lead you to sluggish feeling in the next morning.

Why People Travel with Pillows

This post will give you more clearly about 3 common reason that a neck pillows is a must-have stuff in your luggage while you are travelling.

For Sleeping (on a plane or on a car trip)

In a long trip driving car, you and your friend alternatively drive that means you have time to rest while your friends driving. If you have a neck pillow, you will have a comfortable sleeping to recover health and metal for the next time.

Or in the long trip in air plan, you can have a 3-4-hour sleep with this great Neck Pillow. By default, you’re given an institutional spongy square pillow. This pillow is too small for you to have a good sleep. Then I think a Neck Pillow is a must.

Because They Have Allergies

Hotel is technically public place where many people can use the same Pillow and Matress. You may see that pillows in your hotel are not only uncomfortable, but are laden with allergens (like dust mites) that like to feed on your dead skin and hair. Even the luxury down pillows you get at the nicer hotels are not typically dust mite proof.

These tiny stuffs can cause asthma and allergy reactions. So I recommend you take your own travel cushion (clean and hypoallergenic) when you travel.

The fact that if you're allergic to down you can get irritation even with a perfectly clean down pillow.

For Comfort

No one can have good health & mental status without sleeping. This issue is much more important when you are in a trip. Even though you’ll find luxury accommodations that strive to ensure that your stay is as comfortable as possible, most only offer you flat, lumpy pillow options that are typically made of a foam and feather combination. Unfortunately, these can leave you with a stiff neck the next morning. Putting your own neck pillow on top of the pillow provided can make a big difference in your comfort.

Do Travel Pillows Work?

A travel pillow allows you to sleep just about anywhere. A neck pillow that is generally covered in memory foam can hold your neck upright and keep it from being stuck in an awkward position when you are forced to sleep upright. No doubt, your children will need to take a nap on a long trip and you can ensure their cute little heads are supported when you take along a travel pillow.

Keep your Travel Pillow Clean

Even though the pillow is yours, it can still get grimy and dirty since it's being used out of the clean environment of your home. Therefore, you should wash it after every trip. Each pillow is different in how it’s made and the type of stuffing it has in it. You may be able to toss some types of pillows in your washer, while others you have to clean by hand.

MICRO BEAD TECHNOLOGY

MICRO BEAD TECHNOLOGY - And Adjustable strap for a perfect Fit

It's important that you check the tag or label on your travel pillow to see if you can machine wash and dry it. If it isn't machine washable, here's what you should do:

  • Take the towel and dab the soapy end to your pillow. If needed, reapply the water and soap to your towel.
  • Hand up the pillow on a clothesline to dry.
  • Add some warm water to a bowl and wet a towel or rag in the bowl. Add some detergent on the end of the towel.
  • Using another wet towel, rinse off the detergent.

How to Pack Pillows for Travel

By choosing the right size, you don't have to worry about having to cram your full-sized pillow in your luggage or carry-on. You can find a variety of travel pillows in different sizes, shapes, stuffings, and fabrics.

A Travel Pillow is packed easily

You can also use compression cubes to help you shrink and organize your space for packing your clothes and make room for your neck pillow too.

Conclusion

Bringing your own pillow – no matter where you are, whether it's in an airplane, hotel, in a car, or on a friend's couch – ensures you'll have a clean and comfortable way to rest your head. And, bottom line, having your own pillow will help you to get adequate rest on your trip so you can arrive feeling refreshed and ready to take on whatever your destination has to offer.

In this post, I want to give you an answer of the question about what's the right pillow for you. There's all sorts of different pillows out there and I could answer questions on a bunch. But I wanted to just open your mind to one pillow named Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow.

Chiroflow Professional Waterbase pillow

This pillow is available in Amazon, you can order it here

When I first thought it or when I first sod here in our office which we we had it here before I arrived I didn't think much of it and I didn't even try it out until recently when I was doing my own therapy session and I grabbed and I said “wow, this thing is really comfortable” So I wanted to show you about this pillow - the Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow.

It's actually called Chiroflow i'm going to show you the new one. This is what it looks like: Chiroflow. They've actually done some clinical studies using it. When they did the clinical study they said it was the best among the ones that they used in how fast the subjects fell asleep and it also i was number one in how few times subjects woke up.

I wanted to show you the difference between it and my other pillows.

Obviously it's well sewn together so it doesn't tear up in time. It's got several layers of cushion but they it feels really comfy.

But here's the biggie if you've ever been injured at all especially you know your neck or your low back the the best feeling is when you can get in water and you're weightless so in this pillow you can actually fill it up with water and you know whether it be a little bit of water or a lot of water. That'll give you the depth that you want to lay down on and so that's on the back side and you can hear it sloshing around a little bit.

When you lay down the rule of thumb is that your head isn't supposed to like tilt like that because that'll just put a crick in your neck so you're going to fill up a little bit of water and just get enough so that I it'll be the distance between your ear and the mattress and of course your shoulder is going to you know it's going to come in going to be just enough to be able to support your head so that your neck is a line whenever you're laying on your side.

If you want to lay on your back it's not going to shove your head so far forward that that gets uncomfortable too. So I've really found that this pillow has answered the questions and the the problem that I've always had of finding a really good pillow most of the temp my old pillows.

You know when I put on when I get on my side I have to you know bunch it up so that it balances my head but I found that this one has really been the answer for me.

What is the Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow

- Easy care

- Top recommended support pillow by Chiropractors

- Professional grade neck pain support

- No chemicals or treatments required

- Insulated to keep pillow at the perfect temperature

- Proven test results for neck pain relief

How the Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow Improves Sleep Alignment

Back and stomach sleepers are also at risk. Their heads are either pushed forward when sleeping on their backs, or too low when sleeping on their stomachs. Support pillows are made to prevent those types of curves that leave you waking up in pain, with headaches or just feeling fatigued all day long. However, many support pillows are uncomfortable on the face for side and stomach sleepers.

Waterbase pillows are great for sleep support in all positions. When people sleep on their sides, one of the most common positions, their necks are usually angled down toward their lower shoulder, putting great strain on the muscles and vertebra that protect sensitive nerves.

While the Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow is great for all three most common positions, it is extremely helpful for side and stomach sleepers because the gentle molding of the water allows the face to be cradled more softly and comfortably while still providing the neck, back and shoulders with the support they need to keep you healthy and feeling great.

Choosing a Good Support Pillow

“Sleep is an indicator of overall health and quality of life,” according to Kristen Knutson, PhD, of the National Sleep Foundation. That means choosing the best sleep support possible is very important to your daily life, and well worth the effort of finding a great support pillow. The Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow has been clinically tested and rates high in all five categories of sleep quality.

Good support pillows should be easy to care for and keep clean as well. The Chiroflow has an easy to remove cover that can be machine washed and dried. The inner water case can be wiped down to clean up any spills or dirt. Best of all, since the inner core of the pillow is a rubber case of water it cannot collect dirt, debris, allergens, dust mites or other sources of irritation.

Thermal Insulation Keeps Your Chiroflow Just the Right Temperature

The water core casing is made with a thermal insulated rubber that keeps the naturally conductive attributes of water at bay. It prevents the water from heating up due to body heat, or getting cold from room temperature levels, so you are always comfortable. You can also use hot water to provide heat to areas that need therapeutic warmth, and the insulated core will keep the temperature consistent longer to help sore, painful muscles get the relief they need.

Benefits of the Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow

The Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow rates high in consumer satisfaction and clinical tests for many great reasons. It doesn’t bunch up the way standard pillows do. Even shredded memory foam can bunch up and separate. Water flows only where pressure is applied, and the shape follows you evenly as you move, even if only a little bit.

One benefit can seem like a disadvantage at first. Water is heavy! Compared to any other pillow on the market, the Chiroflow may feel like a brick at first, but that is just the weight of the water, and it is actually an advantage. When you place the Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow where you want it, it will stay there. The water’s weight anchors the pillow, and yet, the water core moves gently to the shape of your body, so you feel like you are sleeping on a soft cushion.

The softness is not to be mistaken for weakness. The water provides the maximum support for the areas of the body that need to be kept in line during your sleep. It comforts and protects the neck, so your muscles do not tense up, and the spine does not bend out of shape.

Another great advantage of the Chiroflow Water Pillow that other support pillows usually do not have, is the ability to adjust it to the exact level of firmness required. That allows it to be used in any sleep position. Even stomach and back sleepers can enjoy a great night’s sleep while keeping their body perfectly positioned. It is wonderful for pregnant women as well, and supports the stomach comfortably, while it moves to prevent pressure when you shift in the night.

Disadvantages of the Chiroflow Premium Water Pillow

The biggest disadvantage to the Chiroflow Pillow is the weight. That is easily overcome and adjusted to. Since no chemicals are ever needed to keep the water clean, there is no danger from using it even when pets or small children are present.

Sleep is one of the few natural phenomena that is hardwired into everyone. We are instinctively able to sleep, regardless of age. Everyone is born with an ability to sleep. This ability is demonstrated by the ability of babies to sleep. As far as everyone is concerned, it a natural process.

how sleeping posture effect your health

However natural sleeping is, it can end up being a not so easy endeavor. Various factors come into paly, each determining the extent of benefits derived from sleeping. Too much sleep is associated with some conditions detrimental to health such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases. On the other hand, too little of it is known to cause some negative side effects as well including dementia and diabetes.

At the pinnacle of factors affecting the amount od sleep one has is sleeping posture. Sleeping position has a hand in causing wrinkles, heartburn, and snoring.

Stomach Sleeping

what is stomach sleeping posture?

The Benefits: There is very little to gain by sleeping on your stomach. This sleeping position is the most disadvantageous sleeping position. Nevertheless, you stand to reduce susceptibility to apnea and snoring.

The demerits: Sleeping on your stomach distorts the natural alignment of the spine, leading to lower back aches. The resulting posture of the head, which is placed looking at one side only also affects the neck. If you are an advent stomach sleeper, you can reduce the impact on your back by placing a pillow just under your abdomen to raise your lower back.

Side Sleeping

what is side sleeping posture

The Benefits: This is the most popular sleeping posture. More often than not, you will find yourself in a fetal pose while sleeping. Other times, you will be stretched out straight. Whichever of the two you opt for, you stand to ease the extent and the occurrence of any heartburn. Additionally, if you are pregnant, it is advised fro you to sleep on your left side, which improves circulation to the heart. Back sleeping during pregnancy places undue pressure on the back, which can cause fainting episodes.

The Demerits: Sleeping on one side the whole night can cause organ strain, with the lung and stomach being the most susceptible. Organ strain can be prevented by altering between the side as you sleep (which is rather difficult once you completely doze off). One side sleeping can also cause pressure-induced numbness on the arms. Supporting your body weight with one arm only, places a lot of pressure on the given armís muscles and nerves as well as restricting blood flow. As a consequence, you may end up experiencing painful needle sharp pains in your arm or an episode of ìrubber armî.

Back Sleeping

what is back sleeping posture?

The Benefits: Ask any physician which is the best sleeping posture and they will intuitively tell you that it is the savasana pose posture. The benefits that emanate from sleeping in this position are enormous. For starters, the whole of the back section, including the spine is relaxed and well supported. The mattress, in this case, can perform its work comprehensively by providing support to the spine. What this means is that the back muscles and the spine are relaxed and get a good night rest.

Additionally, the neck is placed in a neutral posture, thus reducing the occurrence of any unnecessary pressure.

Since your face is kept free of any compression against the pillow and mattress, it leaves you free from any sleep induced wrinkles. This is a huge plus for all those who aim to maintain a wrinkle-free face.

The Cons: as you would imagine, there are some definite cons is being back sleeper. One of them is the increased susceptibility to snoring and sleep apnea. Sleeping on your back causes the lower end of your tongue to collapse while you sleep, causing obstruction of the windpipe. Consequently, you end up snoring. There exist a high correlation between this sleeping position and snoring or apnea that one of their treatment is sleeping on your side!

Additionally, research into good night sleep has shown that people who snooze with this position tend to suffer from a poor night rest. Information stemming from the research that people who have a restless night, spend a good amount of time on their backs than in any other position.

Sleeping is a matter of comfortability, and a great deal should be done to ensure you are comfortable. Play around with the various sleeping posture until you find the perfect match for you.

How to optimize my sleeping position

In case you can not change your sleeping position, you can check out this video of  St. John to modify and optimizing your sleeping position then you can have a good sleep as well as good health.

Stomach sleep position

Stomach sleeping is bad idea for every body. Here's why. Most people sleep on their stomach with a pillow sometimes flat on the bed. But that's even not that much better.

So what were are doing is we are putting the spine into a little bit of an extension and tightening down all of these muscles that are comming down the back.

Along with that we can see that if we are going to sleep on our stomach we have to turn our head to the side that puts our cervical spine into a rotation or twist and then we stay there for hours and hours when we are sleeping.

The other thing that we end up seeing with stomach sleepers to again depending on the mattress and the state of the mattressis that the low back tends to curve too much here to kind of sinks into the bed and we end up getting some low back issues.

There are variations of what happened down here. People with their feet sometimes straight out, sometimes kicked to the side here. We are putting the hip into a shortened kind of position and very asymmetrical

The worst part of this sleeping position is what happens in the cervical spine and that rotation. In the clinic, doctors treat atlas access distortions mal positionings of those structures by releasing muscles around them and you are in this twist and most people tend to turn their head to the same side every time they sleep on their stomach.

It is not like they switch back and forth which would make it better but it is still not great.

Side sleep position

Here we have a side sleep position with one pillow. Side sleeping is really an okay position to sleep in although many people find it tobe uncomfortable.

If you have a shoulder injury or shoulder pain, that could be problematic. Here to again we run into folks with certain neck issues and certain low back issues. And I want to show you how to make this side sleeping position better, more comfortable and something that you can do to help alleviate any of those discomforts that you have.

First of all, we are going to start down at the bottom here. There is a couple of things missing. What we want to do is support the knees and the low back here a little bit beeter. And in doing that I'm going to grab a pillow from knees and we are going to use this one right between the knees. Many people like to be stacked up as we call it the hips one on top of the other, the knees one on top of the other right here. And this is a great position.

We don't want the knees to be too bent like up in that crunched up, kind of fetal position because that again will tighten things across the hips here overnight. But a stack knee position with a pillow that go from the knee all the way down to the ankle.

There are some products out there that kind of only supports the knee but what happens here is then the foot falls down towards the bed put some torque on the knee and possibly soem rotation in the hip.

So if you can manage a pillow between the knees that covers the whole lower leg supports the thigh. Basically what we are going for is to have this upper leg parallel to the bed.

Some people like to sleep with a knee thrown out in front of the other, so in that position go ahead and straighten out your back leg. This position actually becomes pretty problematic for side sleeper.

Here we put a huge rotation into the low back and often. That ends up being uncomfortable after a little while and we get some low back problems. Here we need maybe something more substantial a larger pillow or I've seen different yoga bolsters and things like that that work well here. We put this thicker pillow out in front again. Here the hips stay a little stacked up. Again the thigh is parallel to the table and we've got a good untwisted supported position here for the lower half of the body.

For Female, they usually have wider shoulders, narrow waist and hider hips. So what happens in the side lying position is their lumbar spine is kind of want to fall down towards the bed/the mattress. This is where we get into a little discussion of mattresses depending on how good the support is in your mattress. This may be taken care of in a good mattress, their hips will sink a little bit farther and  the shoulders sink a little bit farther and the mattress kind of arise to support this. But in this case, you can use a pillow to support you waist and that can ensure your backbone, spine in a nice straight position.

In order to optimize your side lying position, you should need a partner to look at you from the back while you are lying down in bed, then he/she can justify your position & pillow support to create an ideal side lying position.

Back sleeping position

Now let consider back sleeping position. This is position that most people get into, completely flat on the bed and a nice big fluffy pillow underneath the head. But what we can see there is big problem with this position is that this nice big fluffy pillow has pushed you into a major head forward position. This problem is happened with most people when they use big down pillows and these pillows are not appropriate for your body size or not appropriate for the position that your head needs to be in.

In the approach with the straight of your spine, let remove the pillow, we can see that the middle of the shoulder joint should line up with the middle of the ear. This is good alignment form front to back. When we get too far out in front of our shoulder, the head becomes in the head forward. We tighten up all these muscles along the front side of the neck and that can even start to involve muscles down to the chest and we can get this rounded forward head. Neck pain shoulder playing kind of situation.

However, you can see that there is nothing support the back of your neck. What ends up happening over time is the head will start to go into an extent flat position and the next starts to press down towards the bed and then we get a straight and vertical spine.

So what we want to do is find something like a roll – neck roll. Some people use a towel rolled up and you can find a towel to create a pillow with 3.5 inches. You should try to create a rolled pillow that suitable for your neck to ensure that your head actually rest on the mattress, your neck is supported and the ear is in line with the shoulders which is what we want it for this kind of coronal plane alignment.

An extra things we need to consider is if there is patent with a low back problem especially if the low back tends to curve too much, we might want to support underneath the knees. This is probably the orthopedically musculoskeletal of most neutral position to sleep in and the one we recommend to most of you.

We do not recommend back sleeping position if you suffer from sleep apnea or have significant snoring problems.

Like so many other things related to neck pain, just one ounce of prevention could be worth at least one pound of cure. Of course it is also true that some things that cause neck pain, like wear and tear that is related age, are not issues that you can control. However, there are also many different things that you can do to help minimize your risk for neck pain. A good starting point is looking at the effects that this can have on your neck pain as well as the way you sleep every night.

how to prevent neck pain and sleep away your neck pain

Finding The Best Sleeping Position For Your Neck

The sleeping posture play important role to make your sleep heathly and comfortable.

There are two sleeping positions that are easiest on your neck. They are sleeping on your side or on your back. When sleeping on your back, you want to have a rounded pillow to sleep on that will support your neck’s natural curve, and then a flatter pillow that provides your head with cushioning. You can achieve this by placing a small neck roll inside the pillow case of your softer, flatter pillow, or you can use a special pillow that comes with built-in neck support along with an indentation for resting your head in. The following are some other tips that back- and side-sleepers can use:

1. Try sleeping on a feather pillow. They conform very easily to the shape of your neck. However, over time a feather pillow will have a tendency to collapse. About once a year you will need to replace it.

If you prefer to sleep on a feather pillow… The Down Alternative side sleeper pillow from Five Star is a great choice (Read reivew)

2. Another option that you can try is to use a pillow with a traditional shape that also has memory foam in it that will conform to your neck and head’s contours. There are also some circular pillows made out of memory foam. Memory foam pillow manufacturers claim that they help with promoting proper spine alignment.

The Shredded Memory Foam side sleeper pillow by Coop Home Goods is a very heavy-duty pillow that will keep your neck in the perfect position for a good night’s sleep.

3. Whenever you are reclining while watching TV or riding in a plane, train or car, using a horseshoe-shaped pillow will provide your neck with the proper support and help to keep your head from dropping over to one side when you doze off. However, if your pillow behind your neck is too large, your head will be forced forward.

4. You should avoid using a pillow that is too stiff or too high. These pillows will keep your neck flexed all night long and can cause you to wake up pain and stiffness in the next morning.

5. If you tend to sleep on your side, make sure that your spine is kept straight. You should use a pillow that is higher underneath your neck compared to under your head.

6. It can be something that is hard to change but sleeping on your stomach can be hard on your spine. That is because your back is arched and your neck is turned on it side. We don’t always wake up in the exact same position that we started last night. And there is no doubt that we often prefer sleeping positions that we established and got familiar early in life and it is hard to change. However, it is worth it to try to start out sleeping on your back or side - that are more well-supported and healthy position.

Going Beyond Your Sleeping Position

Researchers in a 2008 study compared the musculoskeletal pain of 4,140 healthy women and men, both without and with sleeping problems. The sleeping problems that subjects had included non-restorative sleep, waking up too early in the morning, having problems staying asleep and difficulties falling asleep. It was found that individuals reporting severe or moderate problems in three or more of the four categories had a significantly higher chance of developing chronic musculoskeletal pain in one year compared to individuals who reported no or few sleep problems. One potential explanation for this is that a sleep disturbance may disrupt the healing and muscle relaxation that usually takes place during sleep. In addition, it is also well established that sleep can be disrupted by pain, which can contribution to a very vicious cycle of sleep being disrupted by pain and then sleep problems themselves causing or adding to one’s existing pain.

What you can do with your neck pain from sleeping wrong postion?

There are a lot of question of neck pain from sleeping wrong. The question is what can you do now? You wake up with neck pain, you can't move the neck and you don't know which way you should go? Should you treat it? Should you put ice or the heat on it? Should you take medicine? Should you go to a doctor?

The bottom line is most people who wake up with neck pain are sleeping on the wrong pillow so you need to make sure that the way that I'm standing or you're standing, the way you're sitting should be the same position in the alignment with your shoulders, head and neck all the time.

You need to make sure that whatever pillow you use: foam, memory foam, feather  that your head is in a straight position as if you're standing or sitting. Your head should not be propped down, prop up. You should not be on your stomach with your head turned 45 degrees. It needs to be in a neutral plane the same way that you're standing or sitting.

So when you get up you'll notice the muscles shortened and the muscle shorten its contracted. The way you can release that contraction is twofold: you can heat it with moist heat - a heating pad, a hot shower - and immediately after when the muscles nice and warm you can take your head - if it's  my left side that's contracted you're going to pull it to the right and you're going to hold it for 10 seconds.

Take your head and pull it to the right and hold it for 10 seconds

Take your head and pull it to the right and hold it for 10 seconds

You can turn your chin upwards and pull it forward to the right. You're going to hold it 10 seconds. You actually pull it backwards to the right but you want to elongate the muscle the longer you leave the muscle in a short and contracted position the more pain and contracture is going to give you and the more delay of healing it's going to take for that area to get well. Make it a great day.

Text Script:

You've seen the my pillow commercials on TV is the official pill of the National Sleep Foundation but as the My Pillow Pillow - Really the best pillow ever and what's this official designation about.

We're going to take a look at that and then be sure to stay to the end of this video we're going to cut the my pillow open and see what's inside all.

A real MyPillow Review

Today we're taking a look at the My Pillow Pillow the my pillow pillow is available from my pillow calm for a price of ninety nine dollars and ninety seven cents an expensive pillow that is a two-for-one special though you buy one get one free.

They say it's a special as of right now but really over the last year it's been a special so I expect that we'll just continue on as it is over on amazon com they do sell them singly just one for fifty nine dollars and eighty nine cents and that's the route I took in getting the pillow for this review.

when I ordered it from amazon it came within a few days and well let's dip straight over to the unboxing. Okay we're looking here at the unboxing of the My Pillow Pillow and it comes in this deceptively small box must be bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Oh and it's even smaller we'll get it out.

Here we go, so this is a queen size pillow that's not much larger at the moment than a roll of paper towels and that funny. Okay carefully cut this open here see if I had instructions on it or anything first here nope just just the my pillow information here.

Unroll it and it feels kind of lumpy just fluffin it up a little bit here no specific instructions or anything or on fluffing it up here interesting enough to say that it is.

I don't know if you can read that label here but it's a shredded polyurethane foam care instructions all right here. That says machine wash warm on cold regular cycle must tumble dry with heat no fabric softener.

So we'll let this come to life a little bit more and fluff up and try sleeping on it for a couple nights and see what we think about this here so I'll be back.

oh I did somehow miss this little bright orange sticker on the end of the package so does say you're supposed to place it in the dryer for 15 minutes before you use it for the first time. I guess that helps finish fluffing this up a bit that feels pretty fluffy. We will definitely do that before we start sleeping on this.

Okay here we are after 15 minutes in the dryer and it's definitely fluffier than it was and it still feels a little lumpy like her squares or something of foam inside but um

Well here we go we're going to try it out for a couple of days and sleep with it and see how it feels so hang on i'll be back

Oh oh you're back okay let's see this was a couple of nights of sleep on the My Pillow Pillow and i have to say that well I was disappointed. I really thought after those great testimonials and the great sales pitch that I would get a better night's sleep but I didn't find that it gave me any more support.

I wasn't any more comfortable. I didn't get a better night's sleep it was pretty much an average night and average pillow experience so that makes me wonder how did it become the official pillow of the National Sleep Foundation.

That sounds like a pretty big endorsement and it's featured prominently in their ads and on the my pillow calm website so i took a look into that and well let me put the pillow away and i'll be right back with that information.

Consumer Comments on MyPillow Premium Series Support Pillow

Over 90% of the comments from consumers regarding the MyPillow Premium Series Bed Pillow are positive. That is a great number for any product, and it is a great testimony to both the quality of the pillow and the integrity of the manufacturer. MyPillow stands behind their product and because they are located in the Midwestern USA, you know you can contact them and get quick results when handling any questions or problems you may have. Some comments from users include:

Best sleep I’ve had in as long as I can remember.

I expected to be disappointed, but was startled by the great support, comfortable surface and pain free sleep I got when using the MyPillow.

Got it unpacked and used it in just 10 minutes. Perfect night’s sleep.

Read Customers Reviews on Amazon

Okay here we are on the myPillow homepage and you'll see the official pillow of the National Sleep Foundation is very prominently put on their webpage. It is a big selling point, now the National Sleep Foundation is a real thing. Here's their web page right here this is at the sleep foundation org and they may do some some real work and some good work.

I don't really know but I found that looking at their their website here it leads to a lot of questions about that credibility. For example the first thing you see here is advertisements things that they're selling and this is a non-profit and is listed as a non-profit but you'll see right here.

It's featuring their store and then you have another ad down here and you have another ad over here so it's very heavily ad centric. Going to their about Us page you'll see here this little video is another advertisement here and then you go on down there's ads on the side then they have their mission in their goal in the list of Board of Directors.

Oh ok not a list of the board of directors so looking at their site it leads to just more questions. However I did contact the National Sleep Foundation and I asked them what factors went into naming the MyPillow the official pillow of the Sleep Foundation? What testing did they do and was there a financial incentive involved with them naming the MyPillow the official pillow? I also asked them if being named the official pillow was an endorsement of the pillow or if they recommended it as a pillow? Their official response where you can read it on my website at news for shoppers calm the link is down below but to summarize it well they just didn't answer the question.

It is interesting to note though that when I first asked these questions the National Sleep Foundation sold my pillow in their online store after I've asked those questions the MyPillow has disappeared.

Not reading into anything into that but it's just there you can search their store now and the MyPillow is no long. They're okay now for the fun part we're going to tear into the my pillow and see what's inside okay so here we have the my pillow and it's not going to be a surprise to you that I don't really mind tearing open a sixty-dollar pillow here because it wasn't my favorite pillow

We're gonna rip right into it here and see that indeed though it felt like squares and to put something against this here so we can see it this is simply shredded foam put it down here so you can see there's lots of little foam pieces.

So this is the shredded foam now I've actually been since I started playing around with the my pillow I started testing out different pillows to see if I could really find a pillow that I liked better than all the others and I actually found one that kind of stood apart from all the rest.

I'll be doing a video on that next week so if you're interested in picking out a really good pillow for you and i and i found a really good deal on 12 at a store that's just about everywhere just subscribe to my channel and you'll get an update when that video comes out there's a subscribe link right at the end of this video so anyway this is this is the polyester foam shredded as advertised looks like somebody just took a shred and shredder took the phone rip there you go that's what's in the my pillow pillow and that's the news for shoppers com review of the my pillow pillow if you have any.

Conclusion

The MyPillow is not one of the cheaper support pillows, but when you are ready to commit to a good night’s sleep, it is worth the price to find one that really hits a home run in all areas of quality. I like the fact that you can really count on the MyPillow Company to keep you happy, and the extremely long warranty time they offer is reassuring. Get the MyPillow from Amazon.com and enjoy sublime comfort right out of the package in just minutes.

Waking up in the morning with a pain in the neck is an awful feeling. Not only does a kink in the neck make it hard to move, sending stabbing pains down the arms or back, it is often the reason for headaches, ranging from dull to migraine level. Morning neck pain can last all day, and can even be the reason for back aches, sciatica, arm and leg numbness, and usually leaves people feeling irritable and tired.

What Causes Nightly Neck Pain?

People often blame their mattress when they wake up with neck pain, but it is rarely the fault of the mattress or a person’s sleeping position. When you wake up with neck pain, it is usually because you slept with the wrong pillow. Having the right pillow to avoid neck pain is a vital necessity for getting a good night’s sleep. (You might like: What to Look for in a Great Support Mattress?)

The reason for this is simple. The neck is made of up muscles, tendons, cartilage and just seven tiny bones. What’s more, those seven bones are all a part of one single column of bones—the cervical portion of the spine. As small as these bones are, not even connected directly to each other, but sitting on a bed of fluid, they are responsible for protecting one of the most vital parts of our anatomy – the central nervous system, as well as supporting the head and allowing us free movement of the head and neck.

Inside the cervical column, nerves run up and down from brain to all parts of the body. While any part of the spine can be compressed or pinched, causing various degrees of pain or numbness, the neck is the most vulnerable, especially during the night when we are asleep. Keeping the neck in line with our heads and back is one of the best ways to prevent injury, stiffness and pain in the morning, and the best way to keep our neck straight is to have the right support system – a good, solid neck pain support pillow.

#4 Memory Foam Pillow from Smarter Rest

Memory Foam Pillow Contour For Back Pain, Neck Pain And Travel
Read 400+ customer reviews on Amazon

Contoured to be specifically beneficial to people who experience neck pain in the mornings the Memory Foam Pillow from Smarter Rest is a strong, durable and easy to care for sleep aid. There is no specific position that lends itself more to cramped muscles and neck pain in the morning. Side sleepers, people who sleep on their stomachs, or on their backs, are all equally subject to the pain of a sore neck from improper neck alignment. Whenever a person sleeps in a position that allows their necks to curve upwards, sideways or down, it is out of alignment with their spine. That causes sensitive nerves inside their spinal column to be compressed or pinched. The end result is pain.

When nerves in the neck are pinched, supporting muscles in surrounding areas bunch up and swell in an effort to support the injured area. That leads people to often believe the pain they are experiencing is coming from those muscles, but in reality, the sore, swollen muscle tissue is simply a result. The actual cause is in the way the bones of the neck are supported during the night. Pinched nerves in the neck can radiate pain throughout the shoulder girdle, down the arms and into the hands. Pain can also go down the back causing lower back pain, sciatica and numbness or pain in the legs as well. More often, pinched neck muscles from an improper sleeping position causes headaches that last for hours.

The Memory Foam Pillow contoured for neck pain by Smarter Rest is made of toxin free German quality memory foam. It is made to maintain spinal alignment and prevent neck pain, stiffness and even snoring during the night. The granulated fabric is soft and luxurious, while allowing for better airflow. The case is mite and allergen resistant, and is entirely washable so you can have a clean surface easily and quickly.

Typical consumer reviews of the Smarter Rest pillow include:

“Woke up feeling better than I have in years.”

“Using the Memory Foam Pillow from Smarter Rest got rid of the constant neck pain and headaches.”

“The perfect combination of soft comfort and firm support.”

Read 9000+ customer reviews on Amazon

The Coop Home Goods Shredded Memory Foam Pillow gives you excellent flexibility and superior comfort that cradles your neck as you sleep. The shredded foam lets you position the pillow any way you like, and is perfect for side, stomach or back sleepers alike. The airflow between the pieces of foam also keeps the pillow cool during the night, and the proprietary blend of polyester and bamboo fabric of the cover won’t absorb moisture and increases the coolness of the pillow for the ultimate in comfort.

All of the materials in this high-tech pillow are hypoallergenic to provide a healthy, clean atmosphere for sleep. The inner foam material is superior to down or cotton filled pillows, because the springy foam will always keep its shape and mold perfectly to your body as you move in the night for complete support. Down or cotton pillows flatten and give, and do not keep your neck in the proper position, so you are more likely to wake up with neck pain. Sometimes neck pain or pinched nerves in the neck result in migraines, tingling in the hands and feet, shoulder and lower back pain. Other times you just go through the day feeling groggy and weak.

The Coop Home Goods Shredded Memory Foam Pillow for neck pain provides advanced ingenuity to create a powerful sleep aid. Coop Home Goods is a company dedicated to producing the very best in bedding comfort, and stands behind the products with excellent warranties to guarantee your satisfaction.

Typical consumer reviews of the Coop Home Goods Shredded Memory Foam Pillow include:

When selecting a pillow to get rid of neck pain, consider your typical sleeping position. While most people will move about at least once during the night, they typically favor one position over others. People who prefer side sleeping need a thicker pillow than people who sleep on their stomachs and backs.

 Sleeping Positions

There are several choices in the list above that are made to take into consideration several positions, and offer easy ways to make any position comfortable and safe for your neck. Some pillows, however, that are extremely thick should be avoided for stomach or back positions because they can force the neck out of position further.

Because support is so important when choosing a pillow to get rid of neck pain, memory foam and water filled pillows are great choices. They will not flatten out or bunch up while you sleep, so you never have to worry about them losing their shape in the middle of the night, leaving you vulnerable.

First Thing to Look for in a Pillow for Neck Pain

A study by Harvard Health Department at Harvard University says that people with neck pain should consider using a pillow made of memory foam, or a firm, adjustable inner core pillow like a water based pillow that will conform to the head and keep the neck in proper alignment with the spine. Cervical and orthopedic pillows are created specifically to perform that function.

A Johns Hopkins study showed that water based pillows and memory foam pillows have the advantage because they redistribute the weight of your body as you move, and absorb the shock to your vertebra. Water filled pillows are great because you can adjust them to your desired level of firmness as well.

Second Thing to Consider for Neck Pain Pillow

Care and ease of cleaning is something that may not be first on your list of worries when looking for a pillow to relieve neck pain. While it is true that the ability to clean your pillow won’t make any difference in how well it supports you, it will make the sleeping surface you have healthier and more pleasant. Consider the long-term. These pillows are made to last, and that means you won’t have to be buying new ones every year. Because they last so long, however, you will want to clean them, and you should clean them often for a better sleeping experience. Pick a neck pain pillow that has an easy to remove, washable case, and an inner core that is easy to either wash in a machine or wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Best Types of Neck Pain Pillows

All of the pillows in our list are made of strong fiber filling, memory foam or are a water based construction for a reason. Those are the very best types of pillows for neck pain relief. They provide support while being luxurious and comfortable. They are easy to clean and won’t flatten out, or separate during the night.

Pregnant women need added support for their bodies during pregnancy, and a full-size pillow made of memory foam or water chamber are the best choices. Make sure that the pillow you choose to support your body during pregnancy also has great air flow to keep it cool so you do not become warm over night from the buildup of body heat inside the padding of the pillow.

Roll-shaped pillows are another choice often looked at by people suffering from neck pain. While they are very good for short-term use, while traveling or in unusual sleeping positions, they are not the right choice for everyday sleeping needs. They only support the neck and not the head or upper back and shoulders the way a full-sized pillow will.

There are many types of support pillows, but cervical support pillows truly embrace the real issues that prevent a good night’s sleep. Studies show that neck pillows help people sleep longer and get to sleep faster, but cervical pillows like Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow go even further. They help prevent injury and are even helpful in reducing the pain of non-sleep related injuries and illnesses.

Arc4life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow, the best neck pain pillow

The Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow encompasses the qualities of a medical stabilization aide by using scientifically designed mechanics to keep the head and neck in the right position throughout the night. It is great for side and back sleepers, and is even helpful for stomach sleepers, which can be the hardest position to protect the neck from while sleeping.

Features of the Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow

  • Cradles the head in the specially positioned recess at the center of the pillow
  • Hypoallergenic polyester fiber
  • Designed to restore the c-curve in the cervical portion of the spinal column
  • Ergonomic design
  • Hand-stuffed

Choosing a Cervical Pillow

Cervical pillows differ slightly from regular support pillows. When choosing a cervical pillow be prepared to find a shape that is quite different from any standard pillow you have used before. Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillows are shaped to fit the body as it lays flat, keeping the curve of the spine in the neck area arched at the proper angle in a “c-curve” rather than letting it bend forward in a concave line the way normal force your neck to do when sleeping on the back. The Arc4Life also has carefully designed side edges that are thicker for people who prefer to sleep on their sides.

Side sleepers need far more density and thickness in the cervical area because the shoulder girdle keeps the spine higher than the head naturally rests. Without the support of the Arc4Life Cervical Pillow the head falls toward the mattress and the neck bends down toward the shoulder.

Regular support pillows can help fill the gap as well, but they don’t do it in the same ergonomic way that a properly constructed cervical pillow does. The Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow has a low middle that the head naturally falls into in the proper alignment. The curves of the pillow form also lift the shoulder and neck area the way a massage therapist does to alleviate pressure from the vertebrae.

How Cervical Pillows like Arc4Life Improve Sleep Quality

By keeping the body in alignment, your body can rest completely. It doesn’t have to spend the entire night fighting your sleep position. When you use a standard pillow, your body is working even while you sleep. That creates tension in the muscles that make you wake up stiff and sore. No matter how hard your body works, it can’t combat the awkward neck position that occur, and that is when pinched nerves occur that can cause numbness, tingling and pain in the shoulders arms, back and legs. It also causes headaches and leaves you feeling generally tired all day long like you have had a full workout, even though you slept all night.

When to Buy the Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow

Everyone can make use of a firm, supportive pillow designed to support the spine and keep the head, neck and back in alignment while sleeping. However, there are some people who need to buy a cervical pillow for specific injuries or sleep-related problems. Anyone who suffers from sleep apnea, snoring, neck or back pain in the morning that persists throughout the day, headaches and migraines, of stiff necks should consider buying the Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow. Medical issues such as herniated discs, pinched nerves, arthritis and degenerative discs can be improved by using the Arc4Life pillow. It is also very helpful in relieving the pain of neuralgia and bulging discs.

Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow Construction

Arc4life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow

The design of the Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow was created to give you the exact amount of support necessary in any sleep position. Medical professionals recommend it to patients with neck injuries and sleep-related problems to help reduce pain and improve sleep. It is hand-stuffed with strong, high-density polyester fiber that won’t flatten or bunch. The top can also be folded down to allow for more padding under the neck when larger people sleep on their sides. The padding and the soft case are non-allergenic, latex free and completely machine washable.

Disadvantages of the Arc4Life Cervical Pillow

The main disadvantage of the Arc4Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow is the need to become accustomed to an unusual shape. It is also very firm, so it may take a few days to get used to the feel of it, and some people may need a few days to gradually increase the time spent using it to avoid muscle soreness from the change in sleep position.

Consumer Comments

When users give the Arc4Life Cervical Pillow a chance and allow themselves to get used to the difference in sleep positions, they love this pillow. Negative comments usually center on the awkward feeling or initial soreness that is common when abruptly changing to a new sleep aid. Typical comments on Amazon.com include:

Took some getting used to, but now I would never switch back.

The Arc4Life Cervical Pillow allowed me to get rid of my neck and lower back pain without spending a fortune on drugs and PT.
