The KV-1 (Klim Voroshilov) is a famous Soviet heavy tank of the Great Patriotic War, which went down in history as one of the most protected tanks of the early World War II. The development of the single-tank heavy tank with anti-submunition armor was carried out in 1938-1939 by a group of designers led by A. S. Ermolaev and later by N. L. Dukhov. As early as 1940, serial production of the tanks, initially equipped with the 76 mm L-11 gun, was started.

Разработка однобашенного тяжёлого танка с противоснарядным бронированием велась в 1938–1939 годах группой конструкторов под руководством А. С. Ермолаева, а впоследствии — Н. Л. Духова. Уже в 1940 году было налажено серийное производство танков, изначально оснащавшихся 76-мм орудием Л-11.
