Rocks Done Right, by Pill0wLava
Rocks Done Right is a mod that overhauls Minecraft’s geology in a physically plausible manner. A handful of new stone types have been added that spawn under most biomes. Existing stone types now spawn in new, more geologically accurate ways, and often lead to the metamorphism of the rock surrounding them. Rocks deep underground, the same way that deepslate spawns in default Minecraft, have been metamorphosed by extended periods of pressure and elevated temperature. As such, even more stone types are available nearer the bottom of the world.
Note: I am an amateur geologist and likely have not made the most geologically accurate experience possible (especially where future expansions are planned). Some of these inaccuracies are intentional as either necessary concessions or for the sake of gameplay. Still, if you have any knowledge of some process or feature I could attempt adding, I am taking feedback!
Planned Maintenance: I am a busy college student and do not have the bandwidth to maintain a vast majority of my projects for more than a small handful of versions. Unfortunately I cannot promise future support for this mod. Reach out if you'd like to make a fork of the project (for example, to port to a version of your preference)!

Sedimentary rocks
Granite, Diorite, and Gabbro
Calcite, Quartzite, Schist, Phyllite, Skarn, Slate, and more
Rhyolite and Andesite
Note:
As of right now, ores spawn more or less as usual, with regular variants spawning where non-metamorphic rock is present and deepslate variants spawning where (most) metamorphic rock is present. But in the future, a more complex—more geologically accurate—system is planned.
New Biomes
Volcanic biomes spawn where there are extremely steep cliffs leading into the ocean, simulating the volcanic ridges formed from active plate boundaries. Large quantities of extrusive igneous rocks and tuff spawn in these biomes. These include Andesite Peaks, Rhyolite Peaks, and Obsidian Peaks, with those respective stone types spawning.

- Chert
- Replaces Tuff around geodes
Sediments
- Carbonaceous Ooze
- Siliceous Ooze
Metamorphic Rocks
- Graphite

Alterations to existing mechanics (excluding ores and world generation)
Concrete
- Concrete now requires quicklime to be crafted; quicklime can replace sand or gravel in equal amounts (so you can craft white concrete with white dye, 1 sand and 1 gravel, 2 sand and 2 gravel, or 3 sand and 3 gravel, where any remaining slots of the crafting table must be filled with quicklime.
Changes and Additions to Ore Generation
Building Resources
Sedimentary rocks
- The base stone of the overworld is now biome-dependent, reflecting the likely deposition environment in the land above ground. This rock is found in its metamorphosed state near igneous intrusions and deep underground, leading to a highly variable caving environment.
Granite, Diorite, and Gabbro
- These intrusive igneous rocks spawn similarly to how Granite, Diorite, and Andesite did originally; large blobs of intrusive igneous rock form with signs of metamorphism surrounding them. This metamorphic rock is characterized by the country rock of the biome it spawns in. Their sizes have also been increased, complimented by a decrease in spawn frequency.
Calcite, Quartzite, Schist, Phyllite, Skarn, Slate, and more
- These resources spawn in proximity to igneous intrusions and near to the bottom of the world where metamorphism is likely to have taken place.
Rhyolite and Andesite
- These extrusive igneous rocks are now only available in biomes that either have had volcanic activity in their past or that are presently volcanic. More info on the blocks found in each biome can be found in the Biome Layers section.
Note:
As of right now, ores spawn more or less as usual, with regular variants spawning where non-metamorphic rock is present and deepslate variants spawning where (most) metamorphic rock is present. But in the future, a more complex—more geologically accurate—system is planned.
