2:1 Visualised School Project - A newly designed suburb

Hey hey,

No worries, I am still building and doing productive stuff!

Although today is likely to be the last time I will showcase a build of a school project I made, since I have made the decision to stop the Urban Design study to follow a new study-route / career.

But that does not mean new projects in the future will apear, or that I'm not proud of this map so let's get to it!


I designed this suburb nearly 2 - 3 months ago for my former Urban Design study. This area is designed to fit in Sprang-Capelle, a town in the province of North-Brabant, the Netherlands. The reason why this town was chosen is because this time we could decide ourselfs where we would like to expand a town or city (preferably nearby) so I chose this town since it's extremely close to my city.

You could even decide to look it up on Google Maps (the area where the suburb is designed should be easy to spot).

This suburb houses multiple facilities, such as a moderately-sized shopping strip since there are no big shopping areas available in the town itself. To improve the accesibility of the shopping strip there is even a small bus stop present all the way at the bottom of the shopping strip to provide a way to arrive and leave via public transport.
There is even a long bike path going all the way through the middle of the shopping strip!

The suburb even has 2 small canals to provide a flow of water, nature and life into the area, although it's not just water. To bring back even more natural elements into the living area, there are up to 2 long parks to walk in from between the north- and southern part of the suburb. Not even mentioning the amount of big and small trees scattered all over the area!

The area provides 4 kind of housing possibilities. The most common ones are the standard row houses that are adjacent to each other. There are multiple blocks of these present in the area to house most of the residents.
Next up are the joint-houses wich are 2 houses that are adjacent to each other, but with space left between the other neighbours. These have been added in between the row houses to break up the simplicity of the design wich would otherwise only give the view of one long row of adjacent houses.

After that we reach the student appartements in the southern part of the suburb. These are fairly simple, but efficient space fillers to house more residents that need an area to live, close to the big(ger) cities and schools while having acces to public transport and shopping facilities.
Next to these appartements there are 8 senior appartements complexes. These are your simple big flats able to house lots of residents that want to live in a quiet, but nice area with the facilities not too far away.

This gives a brief describtion about my suburb that I have designed.
