Abandoned Lighthouse - Scythe Point, Holden Island -
This Scythe Point lighthouse was built in the mid 1930's to keep ships off the rocks in the Straits of Holden.
It was abandoned in the 1980's because of decreased ship traffic in the area, better navigation techniques, and a more modern lighthouse built elsewhere in the strait.
The adjacent lighthouse keeper's house was destroyed in a blizzard in January 1992, as was the roadway to the lighthouse.
The lighthouse tower itself still stands, a monument to the golden age of shipping in the area.
