Ancient Chinese Mansion - with Secret Chamber - [Version 1.9.4 or Above]

Long time no see — Planetminecraft, and the members of Planetminecraft. It has been almost a year past after my latest update. I hope new members of this forum while also enjoy my projects like before. And for the old members, I wish you enjoy this post too.

Starting as a project to test the integration of redstone mechanics with architectural designs, it came out to be an ancient Chinese Mansion. From multiple Chinese costume drama on TV shows, it comes to my mind that all Mansion needs some kind of secret chambers to hide those unspeakable secrets.

Starting out from simple redstone contraption like hidden piston door behind bookshelves [Hint-1], to integrate it into buildings like the master bedroom, to the extension of a whole underground secret chamber that include a huge library, guest room, and more secrets [Hint-2].

Starting with a simple main gate to test the style of ancient Chinese building in Minecraft: the wavy roofs, to the parlour, tea house, to those sandstone walls that draws the boundary of the mansion and the end of the project.

Before building this mansion, I had been working on other projects (that did not, and should not be posted), such as redstone calculators and redstone elevators. Using these, I have been practicing my usage and apply of redstone, and the deduction of space usage at building redstone contraption. Watching Project 1845 from Bohtauri, I had also learned a lot at building Asian/Chinese buildings, learning to build wavy roofs that represent the Chinese tiles.

From building this project, I also learned a lot. Learning the integration of MCEdit while building; the size planning of buildings; minute mathematical skills that help the accuracy of plotting buildings; time efficiency at building, etc.

Upon usage of MCEdit, people criticise a lot, where buildings look awfully alike, repetitive. So in my appliance of MCEdit, I used it on little details, those that requires repetition to form unity and order (for example, walls of buildings). But upon the building itself, this project hardly repeats itself (only a building was directly copied and pasted for the use of mirror in front of the main hall). Otherwise, each building were built separately. You can see this through the dimension of each building; design of each building’s roof; design of the wall; interior design, etc. In addition, all the copy and paste in MCEdit were copied from hand-built blocks, not generated from the software itself.

This project mainly features the redstone appliances. In order to build a new theme, the architectural feeling in this project is merely a use of distraction for the redstone contraptions.

Even though redstone contraptions in this project is not humongous (like those 64-bit processors built), but it requires precision. The main theme of this project is secret chamber. In order to fit the theme of secret, the redstone contraption should be largely deduct in space usage, to keep its incognito. If the contraption is built to large, then it could be easily seen that large amount of space is wasted, losing the incognito. So in this project, the redstone technique is not shown through the complexity, but the space efficiency.

As a builder who started playing in Minecraft 1.0, the usage of command blocks as a redstone contraption is a cheat-sheet for me. I believe those who are able to make contraptions through fundamental redstone techniques are the one who really masters the application. So typically, I used basic redstone mechanics like: pistons, logic gates, etc. So in this project, no contraption is powered by command blocks.

Trivia:

  1. What Chinese Television Show did I watch that influenced me to build this project?
  2. What locations in China did I used to adapt the backyard garden in this project?

Hint for Question 2: There are two answers; both are lakes: one in Hangzhou; both lake have similar names

*Note: First member to answer each of the correct answer will reward with free [Planetminecraft] Diamond from me on each of his/her submissions.

Goal for Audiences:

Find all the contraptions in this map.

Comment below if you found one: please don’t spoil the way to open the contraption.
