Defiant Class Line of Battle Ship

Defiant Class were designed as a refitted subclass of the old Line of Battleship designs, and were given extensive upgrading to bring them up to speed with the rest of the fleet. Despite being the oldest of the Royal Navies battleships the Defiants were amongst the toughest and most powerful. Armed with 10 Heavy Cannons running down the sides of the ship, along with 50 AA guns mounted down the sides, these ships carried an extensive armament. additionally they carried very heavy armour designed to survive hits from the most powerful guns of the day. During the war the Defiants were at first easy prey for the IJN Torpedo boats and fighters, but as lessons were learned, the Defiants became more and more dangerous targets. The last of the class the HMA Dreadnought under the command of Admiral H. Howe was lost of the coast of the home islands after a pitched battle with an entire IJN Battlegroup. The Dreadnought managed to inflict severe damage on her aggressors before going down and her wreck became a memorial after the war. Post war the Defiants went down in the history books as one of the greatest designs of the age and an icon as the last of the Line of Battle Ships.
