Dunkerque-Class Battleship
Hello for one last time before I take a break,
This is the best ship I've ever built in Minecraft, which is why I've saved it until last to post. I originally built this after the St. Louis-class protected cruiser back in 2018 and it remains the most ambitious shipbuilding project that I've completed to date. It's the Dunkerque-class battleship of the French navy. These were commissioned between 1937 and 1939 (Dunkerque and Strasbourg respectively) and served short careers as they were both scuttled in Toulon in 1942. However, they did see some brief action as they were involved in the attack at Mers-el-Kebir by the British navy who wanted to make sure French ships did not fall into German hands.
These are awesome warships, even if short-lived ones and they can be seen in World of Warships, represented at Tier VI with the Dunkerque herself and at Tier VII with the Strasbourg. Historically, there were plans to upgrade the AA on Strasbourg like the Richelieu or La Galissonniere with an American-style refit, but these plans never transpired. I've depicted Dunkerque in her 1940 guise, with her World of Warships premium camouflage applied. The in-game model is pretty accurate to the real ship so very few deviations have had to be made.
As for the armament, it's as follows (data is for Dunkerque in 1940, Strasbourg's AA armament differed slightly):
8 x 330mm/50 Model 1931 Guns In St. Chamond Model 1932 Mounts [2 x 4]
16 x 130mm/45 Model 1932 DP Guns [3 x 4, 2 x 2]
10 x 37mm/50 CAIL Model 1933 Anti-Aircraft Guns [5 x 2]
32 x 13.2mm/76 Model 1929 Anti-Aircraft Guns [8 x 4]
Also worth mentioning is the aircraft on the catapult is not my own design, it's from an old Lord Dakr tutorial that I've modified to look more appropriate on this ship. Everything else is my design, however. I'm very proud of this ship and I hope to build more like it at some point. I hope you guys enjoy this one. Please give it a like and post a comment with your thoughts, I'd love to hear what you guys think. There won't be any more posts for the time being as I've run out of things to share. However, at some point, I will return, hopefully with some more ships to showcase, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
I'd like to thank everyone for all their support and appreciation of my work so far, it means a lot, especially since for years almost no one has seen these ships that I spent so long building. This ship in particular took two full weeks to build.
Cheers everyone,
MCMG
