Erie-Class Gunboat
Hello, me again!
This is the Erie-class gunboat, which many of you may recognise as the Tier I American "cruiser" from World of Warships. Of course, in typical Wargaming fashion, this is not a cruiser but we'll gloss over that (lol) and talk a bit more about the ship. I built this ship as a "practice run" to help me get back into building warships after my long break from building the Farragut-class destroyer. I ended up putting an enormous amount of work into it and it's quickly become one of my favourite ships I've made.
I've chosen to depict the USS Charleston (PG-51), the second of the two Erie-class gunboats in her 1944 condition, with additional AA guns and a similar dazzle camouflage to the Farragut-class from my post yesterday. This is not how she's depicted in World of Warships, so many modifications were made to showcase her how I wanted. I've also included a floatplane, something that once again, the in-game model lacks but was present on the real warships. The floatplane is meant to represent the Vought OS2U Kingfisher but is instead an old aircraft of LordDakr's (full credit to him for the plane's design) that only just fitted into the space on the ship.
The armament of the USS Charleston (PG-51) in 1944 is as follows (Erie herself was struck in 1943):
4 x 152mm/47 Mark XVII Guns in Mark XVIII Mounts [4 x 1]
16 x 28mm/75 Mark I "Chicago Piano" Anti-Aircraft Guns [4 x 4]
6 x 20mm/70 Oerlikon Mark X Anti-Aircraft Guns [6 x 1]
2 x Mark VI Depth Charge Racks (2 x 15 Depth Charges)
Please give it a like and post a comment with your thoughts, I'd love to hear what you guys think. As I said earlier, this was a practice-run ship that turned out really well, and the ships that followed this are my modern Royal Navy vessels, starting with the now out-of-service Scimitar-class patrol vessels, which you will see very soon.
Hope you like my work so far, and thanks for all the diamonds!
I'll speak again soon,
MCMG
