Hello everyone,
I'm back with another ship just as the new year dawns. This is the Etna-class light cruiser of the Italian Navy. Quite a unique ship, there were to have originally been two of these, Etna and Vesuvio and at first, they were being built for the Thai Navy under a different name (Taksin-class) by the Italians but plans were changed and they decided to redesign these ships as small anti-aircraft cruisers for domestic service. They were launched in 1941 and 1942 but were captured incomplete by the Germans in 1943 when Italy surrendered and were never completed.
I've depicted them as they were intended, and I've used the model from War Thunder to help design the ship. The model did contain some minor inaccuracies, such as 21 single 20mm guns instead of 10 twin mounts and some missing superstructure around the funnel from the original blueprints, so I've included that as well and fixed the majority of the errors.
The armament is as follows:
6 x 135mm/45 OTO Model 1938 DP Guns [3 x 2]
10 x 65mm/64 Model 1939 Guns [10 x 1]
20 x 20mm/65 Breda Model 1935 Guns [10 x 2]
I hope you guys like this new ship and once again, thanks for all your support. You probably won't see too many of these ships in Minecraft, because they are a little more obscure, being unfinished ships and not as famous as other uncompleted warships from the period. I like the way these ships look and it was a fun project to work on. Plus, these are the first light cruisers I've ever built, the first Italian ship I've ever built and the first ship I've built that never saw active service.
Until next time,
Cheers,
MCMG
