Farragut-Class Destroyer
Hello,
This is the Farragut-class destroyer of the United States Navy. I built this in isolation from my other ships when I was thinking at the time of getting back into my warship building and ended up only building this before taking another large break. Nonetheless, I'm very happy with how this turned out, it's definitely my best WWII-era destroyer design so far. I've modelled it on the September 1944 appearance of the Farragut-class destroyers, which were first commissioned before the war in 1934 but went through a number of changes as the war progressed. Those changes included landing the fifth gun in favour of enhanced AA and the addition of wartime dazzle camouflages. This means that although I have used the World of Warships Farragut model as a base, I've significantly deviated from the model to depict her in late-war spec.
Armament of the Farragut-class destroyer, in late 1944 is the following:
4 x 127mm/38 Mark XII DP Guns in Mark XXI Mounts [4 x 1] (The 2 fore mounts had shields, the 2 aft mounts did not)
4 x 40mm/56 Bofors Mark I Anti-Aircraft Guns [2 x 2] (These are what replaced the fifth gun in the centre of the ship in her 1943 upgrade)
5 x 20mm/70 Oerlikon Mark X Anti-Aircraft Guns [5 x 1]
8 x 533mm Torpedoes [2 x 4]
2 x Depth Charge Racks, 4 x K-Gun Throwers
This was a surprisingly difficult ship to construct, mainly due to the extremely convoluted and tightly arranged bridge superstructure, which meets up with the main deck and the fore funnel in an interconnected mess of walls, stairs, and supports and made designing it to work in the blocky world of Minecraft very challenging indeed.
Please give it a like and post a comment with your thoughts, I'd love to hear what you guys think. Next up is something from a similar era once again, and from the US navy, but also something quite different from this.
I will post again soon!
