Icelandic Research Vessel

A new research vessel for the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (MFRI) in Iceland, is currently under construction at the ARMON shipyard in Vigo, Spain and is scheduled to arrive in Iceland in late 2023.

This new 70-meter research vessel, designed by Skipasyn, will replace Bjarni Sæmundsson's ER 1970, 55-meter Research Vessel (RV). This RV will have the ability to run various fishing gear and provide facilities for different sampling and measurements at sea.

MFRI is known in the research community for its high-quality equipment. This new vessel was designed with great focus on the environment and leading technology. All means were assessed and applied to reduce the use of fossil fuels to save energy for this vessel.
