A recreation of the famous Vittoriano, also known as the Altare della Patria, located on the Capitoline Hill in Rome, Italy. This monument was built to honor Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy. Construction of the massive monument began in 1885, and was completed in 1935. The building is Neoclassical styled, using the Corinthian order, with two side porticos and curved colonnade. It also contains an altar to Roma, the goddess of the city of Rome, and Italy's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. An equestrian statue of Victor Emmanuel II is also displayed on the upper level of the monument. Today, it is one of the most visited sites in Rome, and gives an idea to what the Roman Empire looked like at its apex.
