Kharkiv City Council
Kharkiv City Council (Ukrainian Kharkivska Miska Rada) is an elected body of city self-government*[1], a local legislative body and now one of the administrative-territorial units within the Kharkiv region. It is part of the Kharkov agglomeration. The head in Soviet times was the chairman of the City Council, now the Kharkiv mayor. It consists of people's deputies elected by the population of the city (scheduled elections were held once every two, three or four years; now once every five years). The executive authority subordinate to the City Council was the Kharkov Executive Committee of the City Council of Workers' Deputies (Kharkiv City Executive Committee).
