Information
12 years after the appearance of the M1A3, the US Military requested a new MBT and got several variants of the M2A1 Abrams II. Some variants were the M2A1AL with an autoloader and the M2A1MAU armed with a 152mm cannon for long range artillery support. The US also offered the M2A1 to other countries and Germany and Canada received 200 of the tank. It is currently unknown when the M2A1 will be replaced. However, it didn't replace the M1A3, but still stayed in service due to it's flaws. The gunner and commander lacked machine guns while the M1A3 sported a 20mm cannon and 2 M240s. This made the M2A1 unfit for dealing with infantry, so it was used for tank to tank combat.
