NOVA CONSTANTINOPOLIS: CITY OF A THOUSAND TEMPLES
In late 2015, I started working with theannihilator2 on a modest project to display his - and my - builds within a historically-based city. Through several iterations, our small project evolved into an attempt to cram the greatest edifices of the classical and medieval world inside a single set of walls. For this project, we chose to use the terrain of historical Constantinople, which we've attempted to render at full 1:1 scale as it would have been roughly around 500-600 A.D., for several reasons. Constantinople's proximity to the water allows us to explore ancient and medieval naval practices and logistics, and its seven hills give us the same "legitimacy" as the real Constantinople and its predecessor, Rome. Constantinople's geographic position also allows us to explore multiple aspects of classical and medieval fortification and defensive systems.
PROJECT GOALS
This is an ongoing project, and has been since 2015. We intend to fill the entire city and surrounding area primarily with historical buildings from all over the Mediterranean and beyond, primarily those built between roughly 400 B.C. and 1453 A.D. These buildings are not limited to traditional Greco-Roman culture - in fact, we just recently began work on an entire ancient Egyptian district of the city, complete with its own pyramid, and we intend to build the Giza complex itself along with other Egyptian sites at a later date. We also intend to supplement these buildings and their surroundings with a variety of historically authentic buildings including houses, fora, stadiums, warehouses, and more. Likewise, we will occasionally add buildings from fantasy or other entertainment genres, but these are thoroughly vetted and rare, as we wish to preserve a sense of historical authenticity overall. To do this, we have a strict 1 block:1 meter scale which is adhered to in all aspects of building, combined with complex research involving disciplines such as architecture, art, shipcraft, urban planning, and more.
THE FUTURE OF THIS PROJECT
As of 12/26/2022, we have completed approximately 1/14th of the city within the Theodosian land and sea walls. We consider the word completed to mean an area that consists of buildings which have a detailed and decorated interior and exterior, are well lit and spaced according to the demands of the area, and are properly connected to major roads, as well as gardened or otherwise complemented by the environment. As of now, due to moral gray areas with regard to distribution of certain buildings not constructed by us, we will not be releasing a singleplayer map or making the server/dynmap publicly available. This policy will be reevaluated once our Western Roman and Great Palace/Hagia Sophia areas have been completed.

We have a discord server here where some of the greatest classical and medieval builders on PMC assist and advise us on our work. As this project is large and intensely demanding, we welcome any interest in assistance. Thus far, we have been honored to work with a wide variety of builders and historians from around the globe.
