Pokémon World
So yea... Where to start, lol.
About the project:
In this project i am building the Pokémon world from the video games - all regions. Feel free to follow me in this project or come with project ideas for this map :) I will update this project as time goes.
I know there are tons and tons of Pokémon maps out there based on the video games, but i feel like they are cramped... By that i mean that they are mostly made block per tile. My goal here is to create a map, based on the video games, but in a larger scale that i find more enjoyable.
Perhaps players can use the map with the Pixelmon mod.
Things taken into account:
Some locations like buildings (mostly gyms) have been moved. Mostly because i didn't want a boring building for all the gyms. Some houses are also rotated, because i find it absurd that ALL houses in Pokémon - mainly Gen 1-6 has their door facing south. I know that is because of the way that the games are made, but Minecraft is not an over world experience like most Pokémon games, and therefor i thought it made sense to rotate some of the buildings.
The gyms will all be getting a unique design. Some of them are inspired by the anime while others i made up myself in accordance to the corresponding gym type.
Another thing i have always found absurd, is the cycling road in Kanto... There is NO WAY that the ship, SS.Anne, can leave the bay because of that weird cycling road, so i made a bridge that the boat can sail under.
Also, the water routes won't be packed with rocks like in the video games. I always wonder HOW the ships in the games get around. Instead i will make guidelines instead for the water routes with buoys, that is kinda showing the route. The player won't benefit from escaping the map anyway, so go ahead, lol. The same with the land routes. I have made fencing and trees, but not like a jail to keep the player within bounds. If they are playing with the Pixelmon mod, they can fly anyway...
Ledges... Ledges are like the heart of Pokémon and because ledges are mostly an invisible one-way wall disguised as a ledge, i choose to simply remove the ledges. The maps is not going to be a playable Pokémon game anyway. I also like it more as a big open world. Perhaps a server with Pixelmon on this map would be a hit, i don't know. But it would be cool to have players having the responsible for gym leaders, elite fours, frontier brains etc.
Transportation:
This map is going to be big... Very big.
There will be different kinds of transportation throughout the map, mostly based on teleportation. Example: We know there are ports with ships in Canalave City (Sinnoh), Vermillion City (Kanto), Olivine City (Johto), Slateport and Lilycove City (Hoenn), Castellia City (Unova), among others... When the player enters a ship, a button can be pressed, where a sign says: "Which departure are you waiting for?" Then the player can press a button with the corresponding city and they will be teleported to the port in the city, that they wanted to go to.
The same goes for train stations. We know that both Saffron City (Kanto), Goldenrod City (Johto), Subway in Nimbasa City (Unova), the station in Lumiose City (Kalos) all contain trains in some way. I know that the train between Goldenrod City and Saffron City is the a magnet train, but it seems like a ton of stuff is possible in the Pokémon world, so i am assuming that the magnet train is so high-tech that it can travel on regular rails also. This way the player can take the train (teleportation...) to Unova from Kanto. The subway in Nimbasa City does have regular trains anyway, as you can take a train from Nimbasa city to Anville Town. Otherwise one can assume that a line for the magnet train have been made between the Regions.
The plan is to make a network of transportation between the big cities with stations, ports etc. and from there, the player can access the rest of the region.
The same goes for planes as seen in the Unova Region.
Of course... Walking, swimming or riding a Pokémon (assuming the player has the Pixelmon mod installed, which is kinda the point of this map anyway...) between the regions is also possible. I will make routes between the regions, however, these routes are not in any official game and they are just routes that i make so that the player can get around. Imagine swimming or riding a Pokémon all the way to Alola or Hoenn from the mainland.
Other things:
I will probably be implementing places from the anime also. Mostly to fill out those massive areas that will be there. These areas will probably be mountains anyway. But when the player walks from Kanto, to Sinnoh, having the Tree of Beginning from the Pokémon movie: Lucario and the mystery of Mew, as a location (more on that below) also between Kanto and Sinnoh, the route to another region might not be that boring.
Other areas i might implement:
- Alamos Town (From the movie: The Rise of Darkrai)
- Michina and the Ruins (From the movie: Arceus and the Jewel of Life)
- The Flower Garden (From the movie: Giratina and the Sky Warrior)
- Alto Mare (From the movie: Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias)
Among other.... Feel free to suggest some areas!
For the nerds:
Layout of the regions...
The layout of the regions are based on various factors taken into account. There is, however, not much evidence about the region's placement to each other. Kanto and Johto are officially connected as seen in Games like Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, the remakes of Pokémon Gold and Silver. Note that all this is just estimates and guessing about the placements of the regions, with various factors taken into account. My layout of the Regions is also based on connecting rivers, coastlines and more.
We know that Sinnoh is located north of Johto, due to the in game event where the player can go to Sinjoh Ruins. It's stated in the games, that the ruins are located between Sinnoh and Johto. In the in-game map, It is shown to be north of Johto, roughly above the Lake of Rage at Mahagony Town. We can therefor estimate the location of Sinnoh. Another hint about the location of Sinnoh, comes from the Movie: Pokémon - Lucario and the mystery of Mew. The settlement of the movie is, according to Bulbapedia, located somewhere north of Kanto, between Mt. Moon and Pewter City. Since the Movie is based on the fourth generation of Pokémon, also the generation that Sinnoh was announced in, we can assume Sinnoh's placement.
Kalos
I Places Kalos next to Johto, mostly due to the coastline lining up pretty well together with a few rivers. Also the climate fits, more on that below.
Unova
South from Kalos you'll see that i placed Unova. This was just the most practical place i could find for it, and the place that makes the most sense according to the climate in the Region. More on the climate further below.
Sevii Islands.
Sevii Islands is located south from Kanto, and is roughly based on Orange Islands from the anime - which we know is located south from Kanto.
Hoenn
Hoenn has a warmer than average climate. Therefor i have placed it kind of south in the middle of the ocean. I have placed it relative close to the Sevii Islands, because, in Pokémon Emerald, you are playing in the region of Hoenn. From there you can go to the Islands: Navel Rock and Birth Island. Both of these islands are located in the Sevii Islands. So we can make a guess, that Hoenn is not too far from Sevii Islands. The Sevii Islands are also accessible in the games Pokémon Fire Red & Leaf Green - which is based on the Kanto Region.
Alola
Alola is this tropical region based on Hawaii. We know that Hawaii is chilling in the ocean far from the mainland. However, we also know that Ash Ketchum and his weird friends travels to Kanto from Alola on a school trip in the anime. Therefor i am guessing that the Region is far away, BUT, closest to Kanto. The trip didn't seem that long either as the characters packed lightly.
Galar
Galar is based on Great Britain And the climate there is way colder than the settlement of Hoenn for example. Therefor i have placed it north from Kalos in the same "height" as Sinnoh. Sinnoh is also home to a mixed weather, without being tropical like Alola and warm like Hoenn. Also, Placing Galar north of Kalos also makes sense, since Kalos is based on France.
That's all for now! I will update this project as time goes on :)
