Skyline City Build
A city project based on the theme of BioShock Infinite. A work in progress, started June 22nd, 2012 when the new BioShock was first announced. Three years later, I've made some progress (probably 35% complete?) and thought I would share.
The project has been started and restarted several times, as Minecraft introduced new blocks and opportunities, and as I improved in building ability and developed new ideas.
Over time, I have developed an entire lore around the existence of this city to explain as much as I can to make it as realistic as possible within the limits of the project. It's multiple pages long, but basically:
City was built by rich people for rich people in the year 1890 to have an escape from the rest of the world. The city floats along with the atmospheric winds around the world harmlessly. It can float because fancy space minerals and SCIENCE THINGS. One day city floats above a volcano accidentally as it erupts, killing most residents and destroying all methods of escaping the city (airships). All contact gets lost with the outside world, basically the rest of the world considers it an air atlantis at this point. Survivors of eruption are stuck, must find a way to survive without international trading and imports. Develop farms and shit y'know. 30 years later, that's where the project takes place.
I'm trying to make the city as realistic as possible, in the aspect of including all the elements that a real city would have (homes, workspaces, lighting, proper infrastructure, plumbing, etc). Examples would be that the number of jobs is equal to the number of living spaces, and that there is a building for everything necessary. Basically, every single detail has a reason to be there, also including food and water supply, plant growth level affected by how much light can be obtained from that location, and appropriate deterioration and overgrowth.
TL;DR: Built a floating city, work in progress but I think it's turning out well.
