Kozhevnicheskaya Street is a street in the center of Moscow in the Zamoskvorechye and Danilovsky districts between Paveletskaya Square and Kozhevnicheskaya Vrazhek Street.
The name of the street has been known since the 18th century. In this area there was the Nogai court, where the Nogais had been trading horses since the 15th century; Their skins were tanned here. This is where the name “Kozhevnitskaya Hundred of Black People” and the Kozhevniki settlement came from (mentioned in a charter of 1544), in which most of the city’s tanneries were concentrated back in the 18th-19th centuries. Kozhevnicheskiye Vrazhek Street, Kozhevnicheskiye Proezd and alleys (three of them have survived) are also named after Kozhevniki. The toponym was also preserved in the name of the Trinity Church in Kozhevniki.
