Welcome to the most ambitious project of my life -- and one of the largest and most time-consuming in Minecraft history, by a single builder in Creative Mode. I'm building this by hand (Creative Mode, without mods, etc.) in 1.8.9 since I dislike 1.9+. The Texture Pack is one of the greatest I've ever seen: Winthor Medieval.

I'm just going to go over the Webways (underground) plans (and show the beginning of the inner mezzanine).

Underground Overview

I also considered both open-air and closed (hall) structures for Aerium (the large public, mixed-usage area to the west). I can justify either with sci-fi, so that's a non-issue. It was more about aesthetics and in-game lighting concerns. I still don't know what to do yet.

Height

Stopping at 65 to avoid Bats spawning. That gives me around 115 blocks (metres) downward. Most of the underground is to the west, beyond the arcology's edge (allowing 190 blocks instead of 115). I won't be using the height, though. The highest object will be the artificial Moon, hanging in the 'indoor' sky, inspired by Dubai's idea to create an artificial Moon.

Webways Library: Mezzanine

Directly under the Library will be the central book-related rooms (Stacks and Drums), reading rooms, collections, study rooms, and so on. Roughly 350 by 500 blocks. The Collections rooms will have large halls between them. This was inspired by the Mines of Moria (namely, from The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003)).

Webways Library: Stacks & Reading Rooms

I have called the millions of square metres of floor space the Webways. It's many times larger than the largest building, by both floor space and volume. Over 4 million Bookshelves will be housed down here, extending from the Main Reading Room 'C' (Drums) to the west to the Long Hall to the east. North to south is the Hall of Poets to the Collection Room 'D'. Roughly 2,300 by 1,400 blocks (but some of that is empty space). Under the Main Reading Rooms 'A' and 'B', there will be Stacks ('A' and 'B') for Fine Arts & Long Fiction and History & Philosophy, respectively.

The 'Drums' are inspired by the six oil drums from GoldenEye 007 (1997) on the N64. At least, that's my childhood memory, and it always stuck with me. It's been in many games and films, however. The other source is the Human Power Plants from The Matrix (1999). Not sure how they'll turn out yet, though.

Once again, I'm inspired by Trinity College Library's famous hall. I was inspired by Ireland's most famous library back in 2012 for Wissen Library. This time, it's going to be in a different style, but I love the general shape and quality to it. This will be the Hall of Poets.

The Stacks will be modern and automated, taken from various sources.

Other things to keep in mind are the Berjaya Times Square building (Malaysia), Propylae (Muinch), and Kuybyshev Square (Russia).

Aerium: Overview

To the west is Aerium (named after the hangar that is now the Tropical Island Resort (Germany)). Roughly 1,000 by 3,000 blocks, with almost every square inch being used. That makes it about 740 acres of land (or 3 million square metres). For context, that's almost two Coney Islands.

Aerium: Great Street

One enters through the Ambrose Memorial Building (inspired by the Soviet pavilion at the 1937 World Fair, Paris). This leads directly to the central roundabout (based on Germania's both in design and dimensions, though mine is slightly larger). The pathway is 120 blocks (metres) wide, same as Speer and Hitler's vision for Germania -- making it one of the widest roads in the world. It goes north, east, west, south. The longest being to the south (Great Street Lower).

Aerium: Aerium Library Complex

The Aerium Library Complex consists of four library buildings and four indoor, glass-covered inverted pyramid-like reading areas connected by tunnels. The buildings surround the central roundabout. Each building will be roughly 200 by 200 blocks. They are to be lined with park/tree areas. The entire complex is roughly 800 by 800 blocks.

Aerium: Stepped Park

To the north, in front of the Eagle train and tram station, is a stepped park-like area inspired by Grand Park (L.A., America). It features a giant polygonic waterfall obelisk in the centre (inspired by Crown Fountain (Millennium Park, Chicago, America)). The total area is roughly 650 by 500 blocks.

Aerium: Great Palace Library Station (Eagle Station)

To the far north is the eagle-shaped train and tram station. It's a smaller version of the original designs for Tempelhof Airport (Germany). I hate building at a 45-degree angle, so the quadrant is head-on instead of at an angle. This way, only some of the walls are at a 45-degree angle. The curved platform section is a quadrant (i.e. half of a semi-circle) of an 800-block circle. The outer quadrant, end-to-end, is 600 blocks.

The Eagle Station is home to the Maglev terminal/station (underground structure measuring 300 by 250 blocks), the tram platforms, the hanging monorail platform, the incoming/outgoing Arcology standard narrow-gauge trains, and the super-broad gauge incoming/outgoing trains.

The roundabout is changed to allow for an underpass (inspired by one I saw in Scarborough, England). This allows people to walk east to west without walking across the tram lines. A tunnel also connects to the subway.

Aerium: Trains & Trams Lines

The trains and trams, and their lines, etc. were inspired by the New York City subway system (among other train and tram systems from across the world), Grand Central Terminal (Manhattan), and the Breitspurbahn (Nazi super-broad gauge global train system). (My super-broad gauge train design is utterly polygonic, not curved. Due to the limitations of Minecraft, I cannot actually recreate the curved design of the Nazi train. This train inspired the one from Snow piecer (2013).)

The Aerium trains go back and forth, with one train/tram per line.

Aerium: Astoria

Astoria, the name, is taken from Astoria Park (America), though the resort is actually inspired by Aserium itself (i.e. Tropical Island Resort) and Prora, the Nazi worker hotel-military resort.

The curved hotel is a section of a 5,000-block circle. It's a much smaller version of the Prora hotel. The hotel is split into two buildings and four wings, and spans 600 blocks. There is a giant festival area in front and two cinemas, along with a monument area (possibly to be inspired by the Soviet pavilion from the 1939 World Fair, New York City). The real hotel is 3 miles long and has 10,000 rooms (or would have, rather). That would still make it the largest in the world, since the largest in 2024 has only 7,000 rooms (though to a much higher standard). The beach and ocean area are to be 600 blocks long and 50 blocks wide each. That's 0.3 miles of beach and 'coast' -- in other words, twice the length of the Tropical Island Resort.

There will be a facade building inspired by drawings by Arnaldo Dell'Ira.

Aerium: Subway Maglev Station

At the south-end, opposite Astoria, is the subway station. The building is inspired by the Nazi pavilion at the 1937 World Fair, Paris (both in terms of facade and central building). There will be three train lines directly from here to the Great Palace Library Station. The surface building is to be 350 by 100 blocks. The underground structure is to be 250 by 250 blocks. (Between the two facades, on the Great Street, is the final and largest tram station/stop.)

Aerium: Swimming Pool

Just north of the Subway Station is the Aerium Swimming Pool. It's an indoor swimming pool of Titanic proportions, inspired by Albert Speer/Hitler's redesign of the Anhalter Bahnhof train station. It wants to be roughly 60 by 170 blocks (metres), far beyond an Olympic sized pool. Swimming is a national sport in my fictional world, so that explains that. The building is to be 250 by 150 blocks.

Aerium: Great Tribune Field

Just north of the Aerium Swimming Pool is the Great Tribune Field for public events and various state speeches and otherwise. It's inspired by the Nazi Nuremberg rally field of Zeppelin Field. It's to be 350 by 200 blocks. That's roughly 17 acres of land or fairly akin to Zeppelin Field, and can easily hold 200,000 people in total (but Zeppelin Field is almost squared). (You may recall, the side entrances to the Library, the large pylon-like structures with four doors each, are based on the rear of the tribune at Zeppelin Field.)
One of Hitler's real achievements to many, he and Speer worked on the Zeppelin Field quite early. It's a long-axis U-shaped structure, designed by Hitler for psychological reasons as to 'box' the spectators in, and force all eyes on the tribune. There are giant grandstands around the edge for cheap seats/lower classes, with a vast stepped central seating area to the sides of the tribune speaking platform. The real one is 285 by 312 metres.

I also took some elements from Luitpold Arena rally grounds, but I'll go over this in more detail when we get to it. The same is true for the other structures/areas.

In update #5, I'll go over the rest of the exterior and complex. I might be some time. If you don't hear from me for a few weeks, don't worry. I'm painting my house and have much block placement ahead. See you in 1 million blocks or so. :)
