After nearly a decade, I have completed my ultimate goal. Universal Studios Orlando in Minecraft.
As a child on Christmas morning, I opened up my brand new copy of Minecraft for the first time. As I settled into the new blocky landscape, one absurd question immediately came to me. I had just seen a commercial for the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort and I desperately wanted to go.
After I begged my parents, and after they refused multiple times,
I took on my first ever Minecraft project: Universal Studios Orlando in Minecraft
For nearly a decade I have volunteered on Minecraft server after Minecraft server, hoping to join forces with fellow enthusiasts to finally make my young dream a reality. Each server failed. Whether the owners left, motivation died, or servers merged, I struggled for years to finally own a copy of this long treasured Minecraft map. I tried and failed. Nothing ever worked out. As I was becoming older, my aspirations slowly drained as my education, job, and personal life took over. So I quit looking.
Then something magical happened. A little less than a year ago, an old Minecraft friend reached out to me. He had seen some of my other work by coincidence and was reminded of the good old days building USO together. And as I soon found out, he had a copy of the long forgotten map. Excited, interested, and almost a decade too late, I opened the map. It was glorious. Although somewhat incomplete, it gave me the closure I thought I could never have.
So here's where you guys come in. Minecraft has become almost as popular as ever, a new generation has found itself invested in the worlds we spent hours growing up in, so I've decided to pass the mantle on. In hopes a little kid quite like my younger self would have the fun I never could.
