USS Enterprise CV-6 (1942 configuration)

This is a 1:1(or close enough) Minecraft build of the USS Enterprise, a Yorktown class aircraft carrier that saw extensive service during WWII, sinking 71 ships, downing 911 enemy aircraft, and damaged or destroyed 192 more, becoming the most decorated ship in US Navy history.

Enterprise was launched on 3 October 1936 at Newport News Shipbuilding, and commissioned on 12 May 1938 with Captain Newton H. White, Jr. in command. She was the sixth carrier built for the United States Navy, and the second member of the Yorktown class. She was also one of the 14 ships to receive the new RCA CXAM-1 radar. Enterprise and the other ships of Task Force 8 (TF 8) departed Pearl Harbor on 28 November 1941 to deliver Marine Fighter Squadron 211 (VMF-211) to Wake Island nearly 2,500 miles (4,000 km) due west. She was scheduled to return to Hawaii on 6 December 1941, but was delayed by the weather, and she was still at sea about 215 nautical miles west of Oahu at down on 7th of December.

On the morning of December 7, Enterprise launched eighteen of her SBD Dauntlesses to conduct air searchs, which were attacked while flying to Ford Island after completing their search. 7 were shot down, with the loss of 8 killed and 2 wounded. On December 10, Enterprise scored the first ship kill of the war, sinking the Japanese submarine I-70. In early 1942, she and TF 8 raided Kwajalein, Wotje, and Maloelap in the Marshall Islands, sinking three Japanese ships, damaging eight, and destroying numerous airplanes and ground facilities. She would participate in the famous Doolittle raid, escorting Hornet and flying combat air patrol while Hornet launched her B-25 bombers.

In June of 1942, Enterprise participated in the Battle of Midway, with her dive-bombers playing a pivotal role in the battle, crippling the Japanese carriers Akagi and Kaga, and alongside her sister Yorktown, finished off the last Japanese carrier, the Hiryu. She also sank the heavy cruiser Mikuma the day after the battle with her dive bombers.

Enterprise would see most her action in the South Pacific, seeing action in the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, taking heavy damage, suffering 3 direct hits and 3 near misses, but managed to make it back to Hawaii under her own power, as well as the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, which saw the loss of Hornet, and with Enterprise being heavily damaged, and finding herself as the only operational US carrier in the Pacific. She saw further action during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, helping to sink the Japanese Battleship Hiei. She had shared in sinking 16 ships, along with damaging 8 more.

In the summer of 1943, with new US carriers coming online, Enterprise was relieved of duty, and sent to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for a much needed overhaul, which strengthened her anti-aircraft defences, gave her a torpedo blister, and gave Enterprise her iconic "6"s on her flight deck. She was put back in service in November of 1943, participating in raids and landings on various Japanese held Islands, including the landings at Saipan in June of 1944. Enterprise also participated in the largest carrier aircraft battle in history: the Battle of the Philippine Sea, helping sink the carriers Hiyo, Shokaku, and Taiho, along with 436 carrier aircraft. She would participate in various other operations before the end of the war, including Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, where she would be hit by two kamikaze strikes, one of which took out her forward elevator.

At the end of the war, she would participate in Operation Magic Carpet, and would soon be decommissioned on 17 February 1947. Attempts were made at preserving the ship as a museum or memorial, but fund-raising efforts failed to raise enough money to buy the vessel from the Navy, and Enterprise was sold on 1 July 1958 to the Lipsett Corporation of New York City for scrapping at Kearny, New Jersey.

In Minecraft, she is in her 1942 configuration, as she does not have her "6"s painted on, and her anti-aircraft armament is not as built up as it would eventually be later in the war. With the exception of the blue camouflage paint, this is what Enterprise would have looked like leading up to the Battle of Midway. She does not have a full interior, although I plan on doing that in the future; however everything else is made to look like just like Enterprise, as much as Minecraft would allow.

Hope you enjoy : )
