USS Torsk SS-423 Tench-class Submarine
USS Torsk is a Tench-class submarine built during World War II. She was started on June 7th, 1944, and commissioned on December 16th, 1944. During her patrols, she found and sank a Japanese Kaikoban escort ship accompanying a cargo ship. The former ship happened to be the last Japanese warship to be sunk in WWII, as the following day would see the Japanese government surrendering.
She served past WWII up to 1968 and was stricken from the naval reserve in 1971. She was given to the state of Maryland as a museum ship the following year and still remains as part of the historic fleet of Historic Ships in Baltimore.
This recreation of Torsk is based on her WWII appearance and features a fully functioning interior which follows her deck plans. See her on Naval Battle Zone: High Caliber!
