No hubieran sido estos hombres conocidos, si no llega a ser por sus barcos. Estos se construían con madera de encina por ser la más dura de aquellas longitudes y por dejarse hender radialmente. Cuando escaseaba, o no había madera de encina, las partes menos importantes se construían de otro tipo de madera (arce, abedul, haya, fresno, álamo, etc.).
Los Drakken (barcos dragones), tenían capacidad para llevar 30 parejas de remeros. Se les llamó Drakken porque en la proa llevaban una cabeza de dragón.

Un drakkar o longskip es una embarcación que data del período comprendido entre los años 700 y 1000. Fue utilizada por los escandinavos y sajones en sus incursiones tanto costeras como del interior.
