Realisitc Wood 3

Oak: Apple (Malus domestica)
Aesthetic: Homestead, survival, rough, handmade
Fruit takes priority in this pack, second is aesthetics. Because oak tree don't drop apples in real life, that must mean they're APPLE trees! In a previous version of Realistic Wood, I instead changed apples to acorns... But I didn't feel good about it, one reason being that changing the texture of the golden apple just felt... wrong. The other reason is that IRL acorns have to be prepared a special way, otherwise they're poisonous!

Dark Oak: Brown Apple (Malus domestica)
Aesthetic: Wealth, royal, chocolate
Even dark oak trees drop apples, so they, too, must be apple trees. But what makes them dark? Well, in real life, the fungus known as the "beefsteak fungus" (Fistulina hepatica) can infest wood, making it "brown." This makes a lot of sense in-game, too, because roofed forests grow huge mushrooms!

Spruce: Sequoia (Sequoia sempervirens)
Aesthetic: Medieval, grim
Spruce trees bear no fruit in Minecraft, but they do have large varieties. According to the Minecraft Wiki, old growth taiga biomes were once colloquially known as "redwood forests." People weren't very pleased with my old spruce wood (which is totally understandable) so I've decided to go with the coast redwood, because it has a more similar color, and because it still could plausibly be the real-life counterpart to vanilla spruce.

Birch: Silver birch (Betula pendula)
Aesthetic: Shoji (Japanese paper dividers)

Jungle: Cacao (Theobroma cacao)
Aesthetic⁇
This tree was really, really, hard to pick. Because it grows cacao beans, the obvious choice is the cacao tree. But—no one uses cacao trees for lumber! So there is hardly any reference online for its wood color. Luckily, I was finally able to find a reddit post from 3 years ago of someone who shared their picture of a cacao stick, and included a cross-sectional angle!!

Acacia: Shittah (Valchellia seyal)
Aesthetic⁇
Some were confused as to why I used Australian blackwood for reference in my last pack. I justified it by saying that I couldn't find any reference for African acacia lumber. Well, I just didn't look hard enough. Shittim trees aren't the prototypical African acacia, but they are used for lumber. Apparently they're a biblical tree as well? I guess they were mentioned in the Bible…

Mangrove: Red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle)
Aesthetic⁇
It's red, it's a mangrove, what more explanation is needed? I will say, however, I was only able to find one reference for their wood (mangrove trees are quite small and spindly).

Cherry: Sweet cherry (Prunus avium)
Aesthetic: Cutsie, anime
Cherry wood is actually a little pink when freshly cut! Over time, it becomes a more generic beige, like any other wood. In the interest of not being run off the internet, I've decided to go with fresh, pink cherry.

Bamboo: Bamboo (from the genus Bambusa)
Aesthetic: Tropical, beach, tiki, rural
There are hundreds and hundreds of bamboo species, so no one specific species was used as reference.
