The BMP-3 is the last infantry fighting vehicle designed by the soviet union to replace the BMP-1 and the BMP-2. In contrast to the BMP-2 which was essentially a modified bmp-1 hull with a two man turret with a 30mm cannon, the BMP-3 was a clean slate design. The BMP-3 entered service with the soviet army in 1987, shortly before the collapse of the USSR. It features a combined 100mm smoothbore low-velocity gun and a 30mm autocannon as its turret armament. The BMP-3 formed the basis for numerous vehicles such as the khrizantema s and kornet T ATGM carriers, and new vehicles such as the 2S38
