Traditional Bulgarian House
Unlike nowdays... the Bulgarian houses looked quite unique in the past!
They had basements... well... I don't know if you can call them "basements". Because they aren't underground... usually. Of course they were THE BOTTOM of the house! The top was a BIGGER floor. Like... literally! They were wider than... wait. BIG PAUSE. They were not the first to look like this.
You see... in some places, the medieval houses from Western Europe wеre having small basements/shops. And of course... the second and third floors was bigger. Why? Because there were A LOT of people who lived in the cities. And the streets could have been REALLY small... so small, not even a single person could walk between two houses! So.. they decided to make the first floor really small and the streets became wider. :)
HOWEVER... this is probably not the reason why the looked like that. The Bulgarian houses did NOT have stores.
At the time... the Bulgarians were ruled by the Ottoman Empire (the TURKISH people). If we look at most of the Traditional TURKISH houses, they looked something like this:
However this one is a bit more modern... so it did not look EXACTLY like that... now let's take a look at the BULGARIAN ones:
Obviously not all of them looked the same. But... do you see the difference? Not much, right? EXACTLY! The Bulgarians' design HAD the same things! The rocky walls for the basement... the white colored walls for the second/third floor!
So, because they were ruled by the turkish... their houses looked like this.
But why? Why exactly the Bulgarian ones I chose? If you think I AM one........................................................ then you are right! I am a Bulgarian and I just wanted to show you a bit of our... tradition? Not really. That's not a tradition. Our houses DO NOT look like this anymore lol.
Yeah... they are very digusting... Fortunately I do live in a different kind of house... But you are probably not interested.
