Electric Cars get in a war Declare by Koch Brothers

This is the election where we are finally focusing on the corrosive effect on big money in politics, and we now have one more issue we can add to that list. And once again, it involves the Kock Brothers. This time they are coming for your electric car.I say to the 1% of you who have electric cars.

There is a new group which has been setup with fossil fuel backing hopes to spend about $10 million dollars per year to boost petroleum-based transportation fuels and attack government subsidies for electric vehicles, according to refining industry sources.

Make the public aware of all the benefits of petroleum-based transportation fuels is top priority mission of the group’s broad. Because maybe they have never been in a car in the past century. The Current administration has a bias toward phasing out these fuels.

This is not necessarily a source who loves electric cars being as they are in the refining industry, and thinking that Obama is trying to destroy oil. We have a bit more information about what they are trying to do and why they are trying to do it. Maybe they worry about subsidies of state and community. In the near future, electric cars could take majority state in U.S.A car market. Those subsidies can be significant, in some states you can save $10,000 that is what subsidies are intended to do, to help an industry get a foothold until cost come down and it competitive without the subsidies. We will circle around to the subsidies they don’t have a problem with. And they say that “Over all Electric vehicle adoption started slowly, but it certainly is going to follow an exponential growth trajectory. Once electric vehicle addption hits a critical mass, I think it will take refiners, petroleum producers and automakers by surprise.”  Varun Sivaram – Energy and environment fellow in The Huffington Post.

This is an insider in the energy and environment field. Now the reason we say this has to do with Koch Brothers is it is headed by James Mahoney, who is long been considered to be a confidant of The Koch Brothers, and a member of their board. And he is traveling around to the oil industries that control the industry and asking for money to run these attack ads.

I thought the Koch brothers were all about ideology and ideas? What interesting is, this is their corporate arm who appears to want to go and lobby against their competition. Kind of sounds like crony capitalism. The kind of sounds like they have a dog in this fight. And it kind of sounds like millions, billions of dollars are on the line here, and they are lobbying for their own personal financial benefit. It has nothing to do with ideas and ideology. I hope you weren’t that much of a sucker if you are a conservative or libertarian.

“They are good libertarians, they just care about the ideology” or “It happens to benefit them to the turn of billions of dollars” - What a coincidence. But I’m sure they have goodness in their heart.

But that leads to the question of, as John alluded to. You against subsidies, because you are libertarian? What is interesting is the oil industry get a lot of subsidies. On average, they have gotten about 4.7 Billion dollars in subsidies every year. Do you want to cut those? Oh, you don’t want to cut those. Isn’t that a funny coincidence.

All of a sudden they are not so libertarian. And also what’s the argument for those subsidies? When they argue for it, they say we need to be incentivized for new ways of doing things. That’s right, that’s what this is. And to that argument, here is what is not a new way of doing things – oil. It is the most profitable companies in the world, it is not a new thing. This struggling oil business, let’s drop it up because it might do us some good in the future. No, electric cars are exactly the kind of companies that need a little bit of subsidies or a little bit a boost. So they can get going. If you say I don’t care, no subsidies for anybody, that is fine, but that is not what they are saying. Subsidies, Billions, for us, nothing for our competition. That is the definition of crony capitalism.

What they could do, and John, brought this up during our production meeting, why don’t they invest in it and make event more money. Instead of taking the money, they have an lobbying against that, if they instead, wouldn’t that be more lucrative for them in the few years they have left? I think the answer is no, I think lobbying and preventing change for as long as possible. It gives you an idea of how much money they are making.

Now remember they killed the electric car, not the Koch Brothers but the old car industry and the oil companies, in the past. If you have seen that wonderful documentary about who killed the electric car, they delayed it for well over a decade, and in that decade they made billions of dollars. And when you go into a new industry you have to compete with everybody. When you have established yourself in the old industry, there is a cash cow. And you have the politicians in your pocket. That is easy money. Kock industries tries makes $115 Billion in revenue every year. And the oil refining pipeline operations – in a related story, this just in, which is the Koch Brothers on the right? In a related story, Robert Redford will play Charles Koch.
